CARDDS:Contractor Assessment, Registration & Due Diligence Scheme

Aims, Benefits and Costs
Introduction:

  • Simply Safe Consultancy is offering to clients CARDDS as a third party Contractor Assessment, Registration and Due Diligence Scheme to formalise the Health and Safety competency of outsourced repairs, maintenance and servicing
  • Every organisation has a legal obligation to ensure that contractors working on their premises operate in a safe manner
  • There is also a need to assess the suitability of contractors’ Health & Safety Policies, Procedures, Documentation and other provisions prior to their arrival at the clients’ premises
  • This can be done by means of a desk top audit
  • This is increasingly being undertaken by independent bodies such as Simply Safe
  • Benefits are provided for both contractors and their clients

Contractor benefits:

  • Proof of Health & Safety competency to their clients
  • Avoids duplication of effort - only one chargeable competency assessment required, instead of one for each client
  • Overall improvement of Health & Safety
  • Provides greater opportunity for increased business
  • Could assist in negotiating lower insurance premiums
  • Is an excellent marketing tool
  • Exemptions are possible if registered with an alternative accreditation scheme
  • Guidance assistance can be provided
  • Removes inconsistency of individual client assessment

Client benefits:

  • Vetting of individual contractors is not required anymore
  • Assists in meeting statutory obligations
  • Managing contractors is simplified to a single formalised assessment
  • Auditing undertaken by qualified professionals
  • Can be tailored to your requirements
  • Reduces risks by using approved contractors
  • Is a low or zero cost scheme
  • No annual task of writing to contractors requesting Health & Safety details
  • No chasing of contractors who fail to respond
  • The ability to cease using contractors who do not meet a satisfactory safety standard
  • Electronic or printed reports available

Process:

  • Agree with the client scope of registration
  • Client provides a list of currently used contractors (not suppliers) with addresses and contact details
  • Simply Safe write to all contractors on the clients behalf offering them the opportunity to register with CARDDS or prove exemption status
  • Contractor completes an Evaluation Form and supplies copies of supporting documentation
  • A desk top, due diligence, audit is undertaken of the Contractors Health & Safety provisions and arrangements
Each section of the evaluation form is graded to an agreed criteria
  • Areas of non compliance are resolved and an assessment grading awarded to successful contractors
  • A certificate is issued to the contractor
  • The client is provided with a regular progress report for all contractors joining the scheme

Approved contractors:

  • Can have their assessment details forwarded to other clients at no extra charge
  • Will be acceptable to new clients as they can be assured that their legal obligation to assess the Health & Safety arrangements is satisfied
